Ukrainian drones target St Petersburg in attack Russia calls 'unprecedented'
On the night of June 5–6, 2026, Ukrainian forces launched waves of drones at St Petersburg in what Russian officials described as the most extensive aerial assault on the city since the war began. Air defenses intercepted most of the drones, but several reached infrastructure targets. The strike marked an escalation in the conflict's reach deep into Russia's interior.
"You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains."
When Jesus' disciples asked Him what the end of the age would look like, His first answer was not a forecast of which war or which empire. It was a posture: do not be alarmed. He told them conflict between nations would continue throughout history, and called it 'birth pains,' not random suffering, but a process moving toward something. Today's escalating drone warfare reminds us we live in that birth-pains stretch. Scripture does not tell us to identify which side is prophesied; it tells us to keep our hearts unafraid because the One who told us this would happen is still in charge.
Father, when news of war reaches us, anchor our hearts in You. Help us refuse to be alarmed, not because we are numb, but because we trust the One who said these things must happen. Give wisdom to leaders, mercy to the suffering, and protection to the innocent. Amen.
